Dear Distinguished Alumni:
50 years ago, history was being made in our communities as our
African-American schools closed their doors for the last time.

Our hearts were saddened in 1965, but our minds were filled with
fear and foreboding, because we were entering the brave, new world of integration.

Gone were the athletic competitions of our Tri-State Conference, the
football and basketball traditions, the brotherhoods, sisterhoods...
the family we shared as individual alumni at the BEST schools in all
of Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

Now, 50 years later, it is time to remember those school closings and
the heritages they cultivated.

You are cordially invited to attend the "Great Golden Gathering 2015"
to come together for the first time in 50 years.. to commemorate those
closings in one unified, beautiful spirit. We will celebrate the athletic
competitions we all had in football and basketball... we will celebrate
the academic competitions we all had in spelling bees, geography
contests and science projects.... we will celebrate the musical competitions
we all had in choruses and band.

Ours is a spirit, never ending, and worthy of passing on to the next generations.

The Great Golden Gathering 2015 will be at the Holiday Inn and
Bristol Convention Center in Bristol, Virginia, with a reception on Friday
August 28th, get-togethers on Saturday, August 29th culminating with a
huge banquet that night, and a memorial church service on Sunday,
August 30th. The cost is $100 per person, with a $25 non-refundable
deposit required by June 15th (the $25 will be deducted from the $100
total, leaving only $75 due). Please make your checks out to
Great Golden Gathering 2015, and send them to:
